“I’m not creative. I’m not artistic!”
That’s the belief I had growing up…
As a child, I had such a vivid imagination, but my “art” just never looked on paper like it did in my head.
And so, I gave up in frustration. Texters, pencils, and paints ended up in the bottom of a drawer, never to see the light of day again…
It was in discovering Photoshop many years later, that I also discovered my creative side. I found myself spending all my weekends creating art of the most magical and fantastical things (think fairies, dragons and angels) that I could imagine!
And so I ditched my frustrating government job to follow my new-found creative passion as a web designer.

But it wasn’t the dream career I thought it would be…
I attracted budget clients, who cared more about the $$$, than anything else. And I became like an automated robot, doing whatever those demanding clients wanted, rather than what I felt was right for them.
My business became a soul-sucking monster, and I allowed it to slowly drain the life – and creativity – from me for decades.
Until June 2021, when Just two words from my doctor turned my whole world upside down: “breast cancer”.
I stepped away from my business for four months, as I went through the whirlwind of medical appointments and procedures that might save my life.
By the time I was ready to return to my business, I was no longer the same person that had left it.
I came back with a new mindset, and a steely determination to transform my business into something that would nurture and nourish me, both creatively and financially.

The chance to win so much money, just for playing with an AI tool and creating pretty images, was impossible to resist.
But my first attempts were anything but pretty. In fact, they looked like something out of a horror show!
My persistence and experimentation paid off though. Witnessing that first beautiful image being created, from just my words, was like witnessing magic!
I didn’t win the contest, but was I was already hooked on the creative potential of AI…

I am no longer that child who was frustrated by not being able to bring my imagination to life. No longer the person who felt they weren’t artistic.
I may not be able to draw or paint in the traditional sense, but that doesn’t mean that my imaginative vision need be confined within my head.
